Frequently asked questions
How do I mark paintings I've seen?
Tap Near me on the Museums tab to find your current museum, or browse the museum list directly. Open a museum to see its painting list, and tap the eye icon on any painting to mark it as seen. You can mark dozens of paintings during a visit in under a minute.
Where is my data stored?
All your data — paintings you've marked as seen or favorited, your visit history — is stored locally on your iPhone. Nothing is sent to any server. If you delete the app, all data is removed.
Will my data sync across devices?
Not in v1.0. We may add iCloud sync in a future update. Until then, your data lives only on the device you installed Seen on.
How do I share my stats?
Open the Profile tab, scroll to the Share section, and tap Generate share card. You can pick from several card variants (lifetime stats, single visit, art DNA, milestone) and share the rendered 9:16 image to Instagram Stories, iMessage, or any other app via the system share sheet.
Why are some paintings missing from a museum?
The catalog includes ~30,000 canonical works from major museums sourced from Wikidata + Met / AIC / Rijksmuseum public APIs. Not every painting in every museum is included — the bundled catalog focuses on works that are publicly notable enough to have rich metadata. We expand the catalog with each app update.
Why doesn't the app find my museum nearby?
Either:
- iOS location permission was denied. Open Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Seen and set to While Using App.
- Your museum is not in our 1,000+ institution catalog. Email us the museum name and we'll add it.
How do I delete my data?
Delete the app. This removes all sightings, visits, favorites, and preferences. There is no separate "wipe data" toggle in v1.0; the app's local-only design means the standard iOS delete is the only path needed.
Do I need an account?
No. Seen has no accounts, no sign-up, no login.
Does Seen show ads?
No. Seen has no advertising, no third-party SDKs, and no analytics.
